  1. Values are the number of individuals recorded in each plot. The temporal data compare abundances in the original large 0.70 m2 mussel bed plot surveyed in 1941 and 2019. A spatial comparison of four 0.16 m2 replicate plots surveyed in 2019 was also performed, with one of the replicates (F&H Subsample) being a subsample of the plot used in the temporal comparison. Geographic range classified as S = southern, N = northern, C = cosmopolitan (see methods for details).
