The dashed red line shows the geomagnetic projection of the flight of the DMSP F-17 satellite over the northern hemisphere. The position of the SAID, determined from in situ data, is shown by thick sections of the fly-by trajectories. Stars show scintillation receivers, and the projection of the field of view with an elevation angle of 10° and 20° at a height of 350 km is presented by circles (black for SANAE station, red for Troll). The grey star represents the magnetometer at Neumayer station.
