Retraction of: Scientific Reports https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-025-00222-z, published online 04 May 2025

The Authors have retracted this Article.

Following publication, concerns were raised regarding the robustness and reproducibility of the analyses of the mutational signature section presented in the study. Upon internal review, the Authors have identified issues that compromise the reliability of the reported findings:

  1. 1.

The de- novo mutation signature extraction method employed in the original study is not optimally suited for the specific somatic mutation data of Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC).

  2. 2.

The re-analysis indicated that methodological biases occurred during the processing and presentation of mutation signature activity and the subsequent integration of genomic with clinical data. These discrepancies led to results that are difficult to replicate with the necessary statistical robustness.

In light of these issues, the Authors no longer have confidence in the conclusions of the mutational signature section.

All Authors agree with the retraction and its wording.
