The raw time series was obtained using non-overlapping windows with Nw = 50, Ns = 50 (top panel), and the IMFs and the trend obtained from EEMD are shown. The lowermost panel shows the sum of IMFs 5–7 and the trend ("reconstructed''), superimposed with the danger time series obtained using larger overlapping windows (Nw = 5000, Ns = 200). Note that the partial reconstruction from the time series obtained using smaller windows is very similar to the raw time series obtained using larger, overlapping windows.
