The short-lived African killifish Nothobranchius furzeri, which shows typical signs of mammalian aging, has emerged as a promising model for aging. One limitation of the model for in-vivo longitudinal studies is its pigmentation which doesn’t allow for some imaging techniques. To circumvent this limitation, Krug and colleagues developed a stable line of transparent fish by inactivating three key genomic loci for pigmentation.
