From: A minimal metadata set (MNMS) to repurpose nonclinical in vivo data for biomedical research

The schematic represents a real-world example of a repository of data from recordings of locomotor activity in mice, where all data are annotated with metadata. A total of 25 experiments are illustrated as separate rows, containing recordings from 828 individual mice. Filtering the database using metadata terms can quickly identify control, non-genetically modified and/or non-drug-treated male (blue, n = 219) and female (pink, n = 94) mice in each experiment. Data can be further segregated (for example, by strain, age and so on), enabling the experimenter to understand the potential for repurposing these data for their specific questions and needs.
