Total lacunar volume and lacunar density were significantly greater in STZ group at 3 month, whereas the same parameters were slightly higher in STZ group compared with euglycemic controls at 1 month. Mean lacuna volume and lacunar sphericity did not change among the groups (two-way ANOVA and post-hoc Newman–Keuls, mean ± SD, *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, ***p < 0.001, and ****p < 0.0001, n = 5–6 animals).
