Serial block face scanning electron microscope overview scans show comparable epithelial and stromal compartments (ac). 3D reconstructions (df) of the neo-corneas after digital removal of the extracellular matrix show that keratocytes within the stroma are arranged in interconnected lamellae. The lamellae in the CLP-PEG only implanted corneas are less organized than in the other two groups. gi Transmission electron microscopy of the corneas indicates that both operated groups (g, h) have invaginated basal epithelia.
