The fish following APC after lateral or diagonal displacement are represented by the plain and dashed gray line respectively. The direction of the arrow represents the average orientation of each fish group and its length represents the strength of the uniformity of the direction taken by all fish in the group (Rayleigh test, circular statistics, see methods).
