Simulation of bound state population. a The integral population of all 87Rb bound states after a Gaussian laser pulse of 1022 nm wavelength and 300 fs full width at half maximum (FWHM) duration is shown with respect to the peak intensity I0 (red solid line). Population of the 52S ground state (blue) and 52F resonant state (yellow) shows that after the laser pulse the population is mainly transferred from the ground state into the continuum and into the 52F state. The final 52F population oscillates with the peak intensity. b Time-dependent population of the 52S ground state (blue) as well as the 52F (yellow) and 42D (purple) excited states during the laser pulse of I0 = 7 × 1010 W cm−2 peak intensity (gray dashed line)
