The staggered potential Vz = 0 and the top two valence bands originating from K+ valleys of the original monolayer Brillouin zone have opposite Chern numbers. The bands originating from the K valleys are related to the K+ valley bands by time-reversal which are not shown above. b The band structure with Vz = 5 meV with (dashed red lines) strain and without (solid blue lines) strain. As Vz increases, a topological phase transition happens at Vz ≈ 4.2 meV and the two top valence bands exchange Chern numbers and results in topologically trivial flat bands.
