STEM images of the FIB foils extracted from 5 BRC organic films (a–e) showing the distribution of carbon (C) and quartz (Si). Pt refers to platinum. Most films are less than one micron thick and are made of pure carbon. Note the close contact between the thin organic films and the chert matrix.
