Note a different color scale is used for prokaryotes. Frontal regions are delineated by the red contour, which corresponds to a HI threshold of 5. The labels “Front 1” and “Front 2” highlight two distinct frontal features: one oriented north-south (Front 1) and the other oriented east–west (Front 2). Both features are visible in the sea surface temperature (SST) field and converge in the upper right corner of the panel.
