The trends in compound (a1f1, a4f4), daytime (a2f2, a5f5), and nighttime (a3f3, a6f6) HW frequency ((HWs season−1) decade−1) for the historical (1950–1979) and recent period (1985–2014) for ERA5 (a16), all-forcing (b16; ALLF), aerosol forcing (c16; AER), greenhouse gas forcing (d16; GHG), biomass burning (e16; BMB), and everything else (f16; EE). Stippling in (a16) indicates grid points where the trend in ERA5 is statistically significant (p values < 0.05), and hatching in (b1f6) indicates grid points where at least 70% of the ensemble members agree on the sign of the trend in the ensemble mean.
