  2. a) The definition of Köppen-Geiger climate zones are as follows (Beck et al., 2018):
  3. 1. Tropical: Not arid and air temperature of the coldest month ≥18 °C
  4. 2. Temperate: Air temperature of the hottest month >10 °C, and 0 °C < Air temperature of the coldest month <18 °C
  5. 3. Arid: MAP < 10 × Pthreshold, where MAP = mean annual precipitation (mm/year); Pthreshold = 2 × MAT + 14. Summer (winter) is the six-month period that is warmer (colder) between April-September and October-March.
  6. b) Years of data for the variables based on census data were as follows: Nicaragua 2005, El Salvador 2007, Argentina 2010, Brazil 2010, Mexico 2010, Panama 2010, Costa Rica 2011, Chile 2017, Peru 2017, Colombia 2018, Guatemala 2018.
