Over time, gaps between existing relatively static regulatory mechanisms and challenges associated with the convergence of AI and genomics are likely to increase. Effective oversight over emerging biotechnology processes and products will become increasingly problematic. Adaptive regulatory systems, featuring systematic observation and feedback, will be better able to respond to challenges posed by the convergence of AI and genomics than either static or anticipatory regulatory systems. Uncertainty over evolving technologies, applications, and implications will undercut the viability of forecasting.
