(A) Decreased level of bacterial sialic acids in the mutants (ΔneuB & Δcps2). The asterisk indicates that the concentration of sialic acid of the mutants was significantly decreased, at a P value of <0.05. (B) The growth of 05ZYH33, ΔneuB and Δcps2B in pH5.0. The asterisk indicates that the growth values of the mutants were significantly lower than that of the wild-type strain, at a P value of <0.05. Comparative analyses of bacterial virulence of the mutants with the wild type strain using the models of mice (in Panel C) and piglets (in Panel D).
