Observation of hexagonal Turing patterns.
Experimental (a) far-field and (b) near-field emission for linearly polarised continuous-wave pumping at k = 0 (yellow arrow gives pump polarisation state; detection is polarised perpendicular to the pump). Spontaneous hexagon formation is evident in (a) and (b). For clarity, in the detection, the signal is blocked out for small k. In the near-field image (b), as a guide to the eye the maxima in the extended hexagonal structure are marked and exemplarily one hexagon is highlighted.
