Expression levels for genes belonging to each category, under TiO2-coated EVOH particles with UV activation, were summed and the average values were calculated and compared to the control condition; the expression range (maximum and minimum) is specifically indicated in the bars. Detailed transcript expression levels per gene are provided in Supplementary Table S2. Abbreviations as in Fig. 3, with light and dark grey colours indicating the expression levels of genes expressed at higher and lower levels, respectively.
