Relationship between the optical properties of [Ru(bpy)3](NO3)2 and the electrochemical response.
(a) Thin layer cyclic voltammograms of [Ru(bpy)3](NO3)2·5H2O (1 mM) in 0.1 M Na2SO4 aqueous solution under photoirradiation (red, 400 nm < λ < 800 nm; green, 570 nm < λ < 800 nm) and in the dark (blue) under an Ar atmosphere (WE: GC; CE: Pt wire; RE: SCE; scan rate: 5 mV s−1). (b) UV-Vis absorption spectrum of [Ru(bpy)3](NO3)2·5H2O (0.05 mM) in water. A drastic change in the shape of the cyclic voltammogram was observed when the solution was irradiated with visible light (400–800 nm).
