In the absence of RH, there is hardly any current flow across SCM. As surrounding RH and temperature is increased, water molecules get trapped in the pores of SCM and interact with the protein backbone and with certain naturally occurring ion forming elements, which possibly causes charge mobilization, resulting in the observed current.
