(a) shows an example of spectrum recorded with a high-resolution OSA at a laser detuning of -24.6 GHz. The carrier (C) and two asymmetric sidebands (S1 and S2) are clearly visible. The plot is overlaid with the optical transmission spectrum of the ring to illustrate that the enhanced sideband is closer to the resonance. (b) Summary of the power generated in the sidebands as a function of laser detuning. Modulation with a detuned RRM results in asymmetric side bands adequately modeled by equation (4).
