Extinction cross sections and trapping stiffness calculated for gold nanosphere.
Absorption, scattering and extinction cross sections calculated for gold nanospheres of various diameter d reveal their spectral broadening and red-shift of their maximum for larger spheres. The optical trap stiffness calculated for the same nanospheres placed on the beam axis of a single focused beam of numerical aperture NA = 0.37 is added to the plots, too. Note that gold nanospheres of diameter larger than 120 nm cannot be optically trapped and therefore the stiffness curves are missing. The stiffnesses and extinction cross sections are normalized to their maximum value; absorption and scattering cross sections are normalized to the maximum of Cext for each particle size.
