Ox-LDL triggers a complex cell death signaling including suppression of miR-26a and upregulation of TRPC6, leading to massive calcium influx, cytochrome c release from mitochondrial and caspase-3 activation. The data reported in this study demonstrate that miR-26a inhibits endothelial apoptosis via suppressing TRPC6 expression, thereby preventing calcium influx and subsequent activation of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway.
