CART (green) immunofluorescence is prominent in cell bodies and neurites in B6 control mice and lower in 4-month-old APP/PS1 transgenic mice in the absence of Aβ plaques. In 6- and 8-month-old APP/PS1 mice, where Aβ plaques (red fluorescence) had emerged in the cortex and hippocampus, CART was localized in Aβ plaques. CART immunoreactivity was also prominent in cell bodies in the hypothalamus. Arrows indicate the location of CART immunoreactive structures shown in the insets. Scale bar = 100 μm.
