Optoacoustic microscopy images of bacterial suspensions.
(A) Bacterial suspensions producing Violacein (Vio) or mCherry (mCh) and non-expressing controls (Co) were filled in circular wells of an agar phantom (~4 mm diameter, only upper right quadrant is shown) and sequentially imaged to assess image contrast and photobleaching. Repeated linescans were acquired through the well containing bacteria expressing Vio (magnification). (B) Optoacoustic signals for the three bacterial suspensions were averaged over the circular ROIs indicated in the figure (orange) at each time point. To assess the photobleaching after the line scan, all pixel intensities in the trajectory of the laser were averaged.
