Schematic showing generation of hot electrons inside an optically excited metal nanorod and their injection from naorod to the semiconductor over the Schottky barrier formed at the metal—semiconductor interface.

The incident light is propagating in the direction of the wave vector k0 with its electric field E0 oriented along the length of nanorod.
