From: HMBOX1 interacts with MT2A to regulate autophagy and apoptosis in vascular endothelial cells

HMBOX1 interacted with MT2A to increase the intracellular level of free zinc in HUVECs, which promoted HUVEC autophagy by inactivating mTOR and inhibited HUVEC apoptosis by reducing the activity of caspase-3. TPEN reversed the pro-autophagy and anti-apoptotic effects of HMBOX1.
