Trophozoites from the HGINV isolate with a normal ultrastructure found in a 30-day-old gerbil.

Abundant glycogen granules and ribosomes showed a characteristic electron-dense appearance. The parasites were integrated into the connective tissue of the submucosa. Extensions of the fibroblast membranes (*) and an intact basal membrane (arrowheads) were observed surrounding the trophozoites.
