We use: years,  m, ,  Pa, , , , , dike width  m, gas flux ~ 3 kt/d, conduit radius  m, reservoir volume  m3, bulk modulus of the crust  Pa and effective viscosity of the crust  Pa s, mass fraction of volatiles exsolved during degassing , density of degassed magma  kg/m3, density of non-degassed magma  kg/m3 (see Supplementary Equations S2 and ref. 6 for details on the calculation of the pressure change with time).
