Wild type, Pab1(+), Pab1A60-9 strains and mutant pab1 A60-9 were grown in minimal medium at pH 3.0 (a) in the absence and (b) in the presence of 90 mM acetic acid. The results of one representative experiment of three are shown. (c) Amino acid substitutions in the pab1 A60-9 mutant are shown on a schematic representation of Pab1 protein composed of six different functional domains. AA: acetic acid; RRM: RNA recognition motif; P: proline-rich domain; C: C-terminal domain.
