Natural abundance 13C spectrum (recorded in D2O as the solvent) of the cell extract of S. halodurans H3B36 grown at 6% NaCl (w/v).

The chemical shifts of betaine were δ172.08, 68.92, 56.20, 56.17 and 56.14 and the chemical shifts of the unknown compound were δ182.06, 176.40, 57.84, 42.05, 33.64, 29.10, 25.02 and 24.75. The paramagnetic ions present in the sample caused a small shift in the signals compared with the values in the literature. TMSP was used as the internal reference.
