Dual multiferroicity and polarization switching in DMO.

(a) Sketch of the coherence of magnetic configuration for Dy and Mn moments. In this picture, there are two components of the magnetically driven ferroelectric state. One comes from the spiral-spin-ordered phase of Mn moments and the other one originates from the exchange striction between Mn and Dy spins due to their coherent configurations. (b) Ferroelectric polarization switching process due to the magnetic field induced 90° rotation of the spin spiral-plane. Here Q = Si × Sj is the spin chirality.
