The composition of PMMA bead-mediated cellular infiltrate is modulated by components of the ASC-dependent inflammasome.

(a) The peritoneal exudate of mice injected with PMMA beads (200 μg/mouse) were stained for the quantification of total cells numbers of NK cells (CD3NK1.1+), NKT cells (CD3+ NK1.1+), CD3+ T cells (CD3+ NK1.1) cDCs (CD11b+ CD11c+) and B cells (B220+ CD19+) using flow cytometry. n = 4–8 mice/group. The mean ± SEM are shown. P values were calculated and no significance was detected as deduced via two-way analysis of variance. (b) PMMA bead aggregates were sectioned at 4 μm and stained with toluidine blue for the detection of mast cells. Images are representative of aggregates from wild-type mice and highlight the (i) presence of mast cells (scale bar, 100 μm) and (ii) degranulating mast cells (scale bar, 25 μm).
