From: Are we failing to protect threatened mangroves in the Sundarbans world heritage ecosystem?

Effects of covariates inferred from our best GAMs fitted to the abundances of the four prominent mangrove species in the Sundarbans.
The solid line in each plot is the estimated spline function (on the scale of the linear predictor) and shaded areas represent the 95% confidence intervals. Estimated degrees of freedom are provided for each smoother following the covariate names. Zero on the y-axis indicates no effect of the covariate on mangrove abundances (given that the other covariates are included in the model). Covariate units: soil salinity = dS m−1, elevation = m (above average-sea), NH4 = gm Kg−1, P = mg Kg−1, K = gm Kg−1), Mg = gm Kg−1, Fe = gm Kg−1, URP = % upriver, DAS = density of all stems for each plot and historical harvesting (HH) = total number of harvested trees in each plot since 1986.
