The heat map shows activation (as shades of red) and repression (as shades of blue) for Synechocystis genes grouped within cellular functional categories under different types of environmental perturbations. The color intensities are defined by the calculated significance expressed as False Discovery Rates (FDR), as outlined in the Materials and Methods. Darker shades indicate a higher significance of transcriptional change. An equivalent graphical representation of the adaptive response, including all functional subcategories is provided in Supplementary Fig. S8.
