Real time Z ring assembly and constriction in C. difficile using fluorescent microscopy.
(A) FtsZ-phiLOV incorporation during Z-ring assembly in real time using images of the same cell captured every 10 min. (B) Constriction of the Z ring within a bacterial cell during cell division over 120 min. Organisms shown in the images were induced with 500 ng/ml ATc and immobilised on an agarose pad under a sealed cover slip for time-lapse observation. Images have undergone post image analysis (deconvolution and fluorescent contrast enhancement). Scale bar in (A,B) 2 μm. (C) Changes in Z ring diameter over time. These ring diameter measurements were taken from images shown in (B).
