(a) In yeast cells, Pum1 binds to the P3E in its own 5′ UTR, repressing further translation of Pum1 protein (top). In filaments, PUM1 transcription is driven by Znf2 producing an alternative mRNA that excludes the P3E and is therefore not subject to Pum1 auto-repression (bottom). (b) Pum1 positively regulates ZNF2 mRNA stability through an indirect mechanism, possibly by regulating an unknown factor that directly confers stability to ZNF2.
