Figure 3: Characterization of antibodies.

(A) Serum from mice injected with PBS, anti-C5, anti-C5a, and the antibody control 12B4 were analyzed for complement activation through use of a hemolysis assay. Serum from anti-C5 antibody treated animals was unable to lyse sheep red blood cells indicating successful blockage of complement activation. No significant difference was reported between lysis in mice injected with anti-C5a, PBS or 12B4. Data shown are average values (±SEM) per sample (n = 4–5). (B) Specificity of the monoclonal antibody specific for murine C5a was confirmed to bind to its target, murine C5a, with single digit nM affinity, using bio-layer interferometry.
