A common precursor cell population (017-PC-A) was generated by screening multiple embryoid body (EB) seeding densities and culture media conditions. 017-PC-A cells can be further differentiated toward pericyte-like cells (017-PC-M) capable of endothelial support function or a third cell type (017-PC-O) capable of osteogenic differentiation. Both 017-PC-A and 017-PC-M cells are scalable, self-renewing progenitors. All 3 hESC-derived perivascular progenitors have restricted differentiation potential and do not differentiate toward adipocytes.
