Opaque patterns in a transparent background were used as object images (xs). The smallest feature size was 0.8 μm. Holograms were simulated for a 2.4-μm pixel imager. The reconstruction based on Rayleigh-diffraction only produced blurred images (x0), whereas the sparsity algorithm recovered sub-pixel features (xε).
