Expression of antibacterial genes in Atlantic cod head kidney after injection with F. noatunensis.
Atlantic cod (approx. 25 g) were injected with 5 × 107 F. noatunensis (F.n.) or control (0.9% NaCl). Head kidney were sampled after 6 h, 1, 2, 4 and 7 days and subjected to real time PCR analysis of (A) LygF1ab and LygF1cd lysozymes and of (B) cathelicidin and hepcidin. Expression of target genes were normalised to 18S RNA expression and calibrated to non-injected fish. Results are shown as relative quantification values obtained from six fish with mean quantity and calculated SEM. The asterisks above columns indicate significant differences (p < 0.05) compared to the control at the same sampling point.
