  1. 1The weights of the liver and the spleen were the mean ± SD obtained from eight mice in the cirrhosis or control group. There was no statistical difference between the mice injected with SPIONs and the control without SPION injection.
  2. 2The excess Fe found in the organ was calculated from the weight of the organ times the difference of Fe levels between the mice injected with SPIONs and the controls from Fig. 1.
  3. 3The percent of excess Fe in SPIONs injected was obtained by the amount of excess Fe found in the organ divided by the total iron (125 μg) in the SPIONs injected.
