From: Oral CoQ10 attenuates high salt-induced hypertension by restoring neurotransmitters and cytokines in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus

Figure 5

Effects of CoQ10 on NAD (P) H oxidase subunit NOX2 (a membrane- associated oxidase protein) and NOX4 in the PVN of high salt-induced hypertensive rats by Western blot.

Results showed that HS rats had higher protein expression of NOX2 and NOX4 compared with NS rats (P < 0.05, n = 7). 15-week of CoQ10 administration by gavage at the dose of 10 mg/kg/day significantly decreased NOX2 and NOX4 expression (P < 0.05, n = 7). (A) Representative immunoblot of NOX2 and NOX4. (B) Densitometric analysis of protein expression of NOX2. Effects of CoQ10 on NAD (P) H oxidase subunit NOX2 and NOX4 in the PVN in different groups. Values are expressed as means ± SE. *P < 0.05 vs control (NS + oil or NS + CoQ10), P < 0.05, HS + CoQ10 vs HS + oil.
