The encroachment front moved forward about 9.4 m over 9 years in transition zone (MF). Each point refers to moso bamboo density for corresponding location in each forest zone. The line connecting points together is a smoothing spline. Five replicated samples were collected near the center of each forest plot. BLF: native broad-leaved forest; MF: mixed bamboo and broad-leaved forest; BF: bamboo forest.
