(a,b) Cells were treated with [3H]cholesterol-AcLDL and vehicle (Con, control) or the indicated concentrations of tamoxifen (TAM) and in the absence or presence of T0901317 (1 μM). The cells were washed and cholesterol efflux was measured in the presence of apoA-I (a) or HDL (b) at 8 h. (c,d) Cells were treated with [3H]cholesterol-AcLDL and vehicle (Con, control) or tamoxifen (TAM), raloxifene (RAL) or toremifene (TOR) (10 μM) and in the absence or presence of T0901317 (1 μM). Then, cells were washed and cholesterol efflux was measured in the presence of apoA-I (c) or HDL (d) at 8 h. Data are mean ± SEM of 3 or 4 independent experiments. *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01, ***P < 0.001; P < 0.05, ••P < 0.01 between conditions only differing in the presence of T0901317.
