From: The CD63-Syntenin-1 Complex Controls Post-Endocytic Trafficking of Oncogenic Human Papillomaviruses

Model of CD63-syntenin-ALIX-dependent trafficking pathway of internalized HPV16.
HPV16 is endocytosed via tetraspanin-enriched microdomains. Virus uptake results in recruitment of syntenin-1 and ALIX. CD63-syntenin-ALIX complex formation regulates HPV post-endocytic trafficking to multivesicular endosomes, which is a precondition for HPV capsid disassembly, transport of the L2/vDNA complex to the Golgi compartment and infection.
