Inhibition of miR-224-3p activity increases autophagy levels in cervical cancer cells regardless of HPV status, but is more prominent in HPV(+) cells, especially in HPV18(+) cells.

(A,B) C33A, SiHa and HeLa cells were transfected with miR-224-3p inhibitor or NCi (100 nM) for 24 h. p62 and tubulin levels were determined by Western-blot. (C,D) C33A, SiHa and HeLa cells were treated with miR-224-3p inhibitor or NCi (100 nM) for 24 h and fixed. p62 levels were determined by immunofluorescence. Nuclei were stained using DAPI. Representative images are shown. Data is represented as mean ± SD of n = 3 independent experiments. *p < 0.05 as determined by student’s 2-tailed t-test.
