Yield of DNA fragments shorter than 30 bp per Gy per cell as a function of LET for different charged particle species. Lines are drawn to guide the eye in panel (a), while analytical fit functions (equation (5)) are plotted in panel (b). Error bars are given according to a Poisson counting of the fragment yield for the whole statistics, taking into account propagation with the standard deviation of the dose to the nucleus among different PARTRAC runs.
