(a) For extremely low u (u = 0.001), the competition of multiple strategies with equal frequency exerts a negligible influence on the multi-strategy selection (σ₂ → 0), and thus we only compare with . is greater than for the vast majority of v, and the reverse holds for the remaining few values of v. (b) For high u (u = 0.9), the pairwise competition exerts a tiny influence on the multi-strategy selection compared with the other competition (σ₂ ≫ σ₁), and therefore we only compare with . is greater than for all v. (c) For moderate u (u = 0.01), the two types of competition jointly determine the multi-strategy selection, and thus we compare the two processes based on both σ₁ and σ₂.
